COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Assessor's Staff Members
Active in Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation

Meet "Ross and Rachel"
latest in the line of rescues and rehabilitations.

Nope! There are no mirrors involved -- these two little critters were found under a porch and are currently being "raised" by Ramie Saragian, a staff member in our office, who is also a licensed rehabilitator for The Wild Forever Foundation. The pair are being bottle-fed, and when old enough to survive on their own, will be released into the wild.

These four small bunnies, dubbed
"Thumper, Bumper, Spot  and Dopey"
were recently released.

Ramie is also active in fostering for the Indigo Mountain Nature Center. Wolf cub "Baby Ahote" is pictured below with Ramie.

Judging from what appears to be a smile on Ahote's face, we think this
"rescue-rehabilitation-release" was a welcome event in this young wolf's life
.

Golden Retrievers Given Love and Good Homes

A love of Golden Retrievers is what prompted Staci Smith, an appraiser in our office, to begin fostering these beautiful dogs in January of 2005. Staci's work with Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies (GRRR), based in Golden, Colorado has grown over the past 3 years. She was recently elected to the Board of Directors and now holds the position of one of the Vice Presidents, as well. Staci regularly checks websites and shelters for unwanted Goldens and transports them to Golden, where they are placed in GRRR's program.

"Carson was adopted from GRRR by my own family in November, 2004," says Staci. "He had a congenital shoulder injury and his former family was unable to afford the needed surgery."

"Dakota was an owner-surrender to the Humane Society. We were to foster him for only a weekend, but he walked into our house and never left."

The mission of GRRR is to "Rescue, Rehabilitate, and Re-Home" homeless Golden Retrievers. A few of the many Goldens given second-chances include:

Trapper (above), was surrendered to GRRR when his former family lost their home.  He was recently adoped and now lives a wonderful life with his new "mom."

Finn (below), was adopted soon after his arrival at GRRR. He now enjoys being a big part of his new family's lives.

Stray puppy Ryan was turned in to the Humane Society.

GRRR welcomed Ryan into the program and he was soon adopted into a very loving home.

A GRRR volunteer spotted Tahoe being sold from the back of a pick-up along a roadside. He soon found himself on the road to Golden.

Tahoe now enjoys a life on acres of property with his two canine siblngs.

Needless to say, we're all extremely proud of our co-workers volunteer work and are always pleased to hear reports of the latest happy-endings to rescue and rehabilition "tails."
